Nueva Hispania tabula nova
- Abstract:
- Ruscelli’s “new map” of New Spain represents early documentation of southern North America, especially the Gulf Coast, with river names based on the expeditions of Pineda (1519), Cabeza de Vaca (1529- 36), and Moscoso (1542). The Mississippi makes its appearance as the Rio de Spiritu Santo. This particular example is considered to be the second state of this map, containing a variation from the first without being a separate print run.
